Battery Life Question
My starting battery is on it's third year, so I'm kinda thinking its abotu
time to replace it anyway. But, what voltage should the battery read while
running the motor? My Garmin FF shows battery voltage to be around 11v most time, unless I'm
running wide open without the lights. Then, it will go up to 12.4v until I
slow down. Running the lights, gps, fish finder, and black lights, it drops
to 10v. When I plug in the spot light... it really drains, and the fish
finder will actually go off. Is it time to replace this one? Or am I just thinking about it too much? |

| If you do not have any accessories running (except fish finder), I would
think it should read 14.4V. That is provided that you give it a few minutes
to fully recharge. Jeff |

| There is definitely a problem with that battery. It sounds like your
charging circuit is trying to charge it. Possibly a shorted cell in it. 3
year life is about average for most marine batteries.

| I run all my accessories (fish finders, black lights..) on my deep cycle and
just use my starting battery for starting.. this how it should be done? |

| My new boat works on a 3-battery system despite having a 36 volt 109#
trolling motor. When I got the boat the 2-year old batteries were shot, I
just didn't know it. I took the boat to practice on a lake I was to have a
trolling motor only tourney on the following weekend. Well, around 11PM it
blew-up, the batteries were spent & I almost got blown into the dam's
riprap. Thank God I had my cell with me, I had to call info to get the
lake's guard, then call him. I was writing phone #s on my cull card with my
cull marker. They got to me minutes before I was blown onto the rocks. Close call. I'll be changing my batteries every other season for now on. Warren

| Most bass boats today are running 24v/36v trolling motors due to the
size and weight being moved around. The depth finders, bilge pump, live
well pumps, etc are all 12v, would they not be damaged by being hooked
up to the deep cycle batterys. Am I missing something here? Not trying
to be a wise guy, just an honest question. I've always been told 12.75v
is a fully charged battery be it cranking or deep-cycle. Never checked
the battery volts running the engine with everything on, the batterys
are to hard to get to from inside the boat. Sounds like a bad cell or
the plates are all sulfated. In either case I'd spring for a new
battery. Good luck..... sket |

| If theywork anything like automobile battery's then they should be reading
14 volts+ while running. |
