I'm Singin' the NWC Blues (Again)

The greatest reason for you to attend an rofb tournament is that you can't loose. You're bound to walk away (or fly, or drive...) with a huge smile on your face. I've never had so much fun getting skunked (yea, I know - 3x on the same lake...).

You'd think the odds would catch up with a guy that's made 10,000 casts, pitches & flips into a lake where (at least a few) bass live, wouldn't you? 16 days I've spent on Boom's (semi-barren) waters. I've fished wood, rock, & weeds. I've fished shallow cover & deep structure. I've drop-shotted, Senko'ed, spinnerbaited, cranked, tubed & wormed. In thunder, lightning, wind, sun & rain.

I should be a Boom Lake expert by now. But instead I've been unable to land a single keeper.

Will I go back yet again & try to put an end to this jinx, try to conquer Boom Lake's finicky bass & save face?

(scroll down)

HELL NO! I'm whooped. I admit defeat. Hehehe.

Thanks as always to the Huber clan for being such gracious hosts. I had an absolute blast as always.

Thanks to Harry Thundercat for spending 3 full days in the tin can that I rented. I'm sure it would've been a bit better if I charged the trolling motor battery. Harry, by-the-way, landed keepers both days we practiced together. He flat-out ruled Boom when it didn't count. Nice job T-cat!

Thanks to Chris Rennert for helping me drink all those White Russians. Chris is a great guy & a super fisherman.

Great meeting Dan the wildman too, and seeing all my rofb buddies that made the trip.

Congrats to all who boated bass in this epic contest - especially my good friend Ronnie "Boom Lake" Garrison. I don't think Ronnie's ever spent a day on Boom without catching a keeper, and I know he's spent more days there than myself.

It's super-great to hear that Randy's feeling better & out casting again, sorry he couldn't join us.

Special thanks also to all the non-attendees that predicted success for me on this trip - you guys are truly nuts but I love you all!

As for Boom, well, that lake is pure evil.

It's good to be home.

We were all really hoping that you'd break that curse Warren... I can't tell you how many times I said that to Joe on Saturday.

If it makes you feel any better, Joe and I fished one of our tournaments for 6 hours on Saturday and only weighed in one fish, and that one neing a 13" spotted bass that went 1.33lbs. This, being a lake that we have spent over a zillion hours on combined, you'd think that we could find at least a couple of keepers in six hours....

Warren, dude, you were my top pick this year.I just knew it was payback time for you to rule Doom Lake. But I am glad you had fun, thats what it's all about anyway. Charles, were you on your home lake? BassMr

re: "That evil Lake"

I know what it is Warren. The missing element is your boat. take it next time to protect you from evil, dropshoting with smallie colors will be the cure!

If I move to VA. by July of next year it would be an easier drive to Boom's Northwood Classic, plus right next to Joe, Charles and "the shadow"!

Thanks Gil buddy, I feel much better now!

For the record, I'd never launch my boat in Boom Lake - my ego can be broken, but not my Gambler.

When you get around here Gil.... you better let us know! Charles

I don't know what the problem is. I can run anywhere on the lake at 75 mph +, and while I didn't win the tourney, I caught keeper fish Steve

See there, your ego & your boat are intact; All I have is my boat...
