Favorite Drop shot baits

What are they? Any preference for baits in deeper or shallow water?

My absolute favorite is still the 4" Airtail worm, but they are long since out of business.

Next is Gil's Belly Shad. But I'm down to one of thoae and am saving it for a tournament this november.

That takes me down to:

4-3/4" LC Rascals (Green weenie and black pumpkin) (caught a ton of fish on these this year, more fish by far than on any other DS bait)

3" Snakebite Finesse Paddle worm.

3" Reapers.

This guy I spoke to recently sent me a bag of drop shot minnows from "worminator" that are awesome looking. They're 3 color hand poured with realistic eyes mounted in them and as soon as I get in an appropriate situation, I'm going to give them a try.

They're at http://www.worminatorlures.com and you can check them out for yourself.

P.S. hey Randy, I made the 6 man team this year. A little redemption after last years debacle.

Rich, try Storm's lifelike baitfish baits, the 3 & 4" size. They look amazing on a dropshot rig...

I did. As soon as I could get my hot little hands on some after they came out. To me, they proved that loos can be deceiving. They LOOKED like they would be very productive. I'm very disillusioned with all the made-in-china soft plastics -- Storm, Tsunami, Calcutta, Wild Eyze, etc. -- They all LOOK good in a generic, transparent plastic, holographic pearl and painted detail sort of way, but in my experience, they all have sort of a stiff, lifeless manner to them moving through the water. Mr. Z, do you prefer any particular color of the Snakebites? When I think Rich Z, I think the dark green pumpkin pepper. However I could be waaaaaay wrong. Mike's Baitfish and the Perch colors look interesting to me.

Depends on the lake. Oroville is 3" & 4" Morning dawn Roboworms and 3" brown reapers for most other lakes. Bill Calif

Mike's Baitfish is great. Ditto Cinamon blue neon. But my favorite is motor oil/green flake. What? that's not a color? Uhm... that's what custom is all about, isn't it?

For anyone who is a basketball fan, Snakebite is owned by Brian Quinette(sp?) who was a hell of a college player and a first round draft choice in the pros. His dad is also a writer of some note who writes some pretty neat stuff on fishing as psychology.

I used to see them there, back when I had a decent supply. But haven't seen them in over a year. (and I check it frequently for them).

Next time I see some, I'll send you an email. There is one seller in particular (don't remember who though) that does not list brands, etc. in their post, just a pic of a group of plastics and they usually have a few bags in every auction.

well I can't say I've tried em during a good ds bite because I just picked em up recently, but I've seen em work wonders on bedding bass when my baits weren't.

Rich, I found some 4" Action Airetails in Big Lots tonite, made by K-C Tackle MFG. in PA. Are these what you are referring to?

Precisely.

Wonder if the BigLots here has them. I'll be checking tomorrow. What color(s) did you find. (and it is the worm, and not the grub that you found, right?)

Yes, it is the 4" worm. I got the purple, yellow with green flakes, green with yellow flakes. They all have a tiny paddle tail. 79c a twelve pack. Not bad at all, if they work like you say. They had about 20-30 packs. If you cand find any, lemme know and I will pick some up and ship them to you.

If by yellow, you mean AMBER, I'll take all of those and all the green ones. If they have any black or motor oil, I'll take all of those, too. Just let me know how much to send where. The big lots here didn't have any at all.

I stopped in a BigLots in Dallas. They didn't have any of those, but they had helicopter lures! $2 a four pack. Henry

Right, AMBER. The color is not actually listed on the packaging. First color description that popped out of my fingers to the keys was yellow. I'll pick them all up this weekend and get the addy info for where to send them.

Is purple not a desirable color? I think there was plenty of those as well. Can't really remember. I'll get what they have. Some one else may want some.

Purple is generally a great worm color. But I can honestly say I've never caught a fish drop shotting a purple or grape worm (and grape has long been my single favorite color for plastic worms). I want these baits exclusively for drop shotting. anything in the green, amber or smoke families, along with solid black, will make me happy. Motor Oil will make me ecstatic!

Rich, you remind me of when Rapala discoed my favorite Minnesota smallmouth crank the #5 Rattlin' Fat Rap in Crawfish. Thanks to alert friends and bargain bins in Gander Mountain and Fleet Farm I ended up with 19 and 5 years later I still have 13. ( Gave 2 to kids that caught their biggest Smallies with me) Works over here in SD too, in fact I caught an accidental 13" Rainbow on Sharpe last weekend as well as a 19"walleye. Useless trivia. ;-) Joe Z.

The funny thing about this is that I had a bunch of these worms and never caught fish on them. Then I tried them drop shotting, and WOW. But by then, I'd given most of them away.<G> Since then, whenever I see any, I buy them. Missed the mother lode on ebay about 2 years ago. RichZ© www.richz.com/fishing RichZ
