Breaking Rods

Ok, I just don't get it. I have certainly broken my fair share of rods, but I can only think of one or two that broke during actual fishing. Most were from things like catching them between the winshield of the boat and a tree when negotiating a dstump field, or forgetting to lay all my ords down when navigating a narrow brush choked channel.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I have had eyelet problems on a number of rods that definitely were not related to abuse. Two of my St Crox rods have had the insert pop out of eyelets, and I have had problems with one tip that just fell of. The eyelet feet have been found loose in the wraps on a couple of my BPS rods, and I have had two Fenwick Eagle rods that had broken eyelets where I could not recall having abused them, and the eyelet was not bent.

Some of this may simply be because of the extreme and continuous heat that equipment is exposed to in this area. The glue may not hold well when it gets that hot.

The only problem I've had with St. Croix Rods ( and the reason I dumped them all) was that the reel seat would not retain my Curados. Apparently this was a well known design problem as I had several fishermen write to me to tell me they had the same prob. When I contacted St. Croix they gave me a ration of crap about it. Tossed 8 of em into the garbage and bought Loomis rods. Never had eyelets pop out though. Joshuall
