What's your favorite brand of trolling motor?
I have used Minn Kota's for years with very little trouble. My Mag 40 would
have been 19 yrs.old next spring. However, it bit the dust a couple of weeks
ago. Had been drawing excessive amps which kicked breakers now and then and
finally froze up. I was told that no parts are available for this dinosaur
anymore so I guess I'm in the market. Would appreciate your recommendations. |

| A quick Google check on the group will likely return a majority to Minn Kota
over Motorguide. At least that is what I have seen over the past several years. Too bad we can't set up a poll like you can with a Yahoo (or similar) message
board... Dan |

| I used to Dan, in fact I was dead-against motorguide. When I got my latest
boat it had a feature that wouldn't accomodate the MK Maxxuum footpedle, so
I gave the new digital MG 109# 36v. It performed flawlessly all year, and
I'm thinking it weighs about half of what my old MK's did. I'm very
impressed by the digital Motorguide. Time will be the test though.

| This explains a lot about you Warren,, you dead against anything you
don't know about,, you really must be forced to use something different,
yes this explains a lot,, not anything good about you though. Your lack of an open mind will never allow you to fish for the big
money, because by the time you finally accept a new way, product or
technique, that everyone else has been beating you with,, they have
moved on to another new way or system to beat you. It's time for you not to "think" about stuff before you use it, you are
killing your potential, with your own stubborn pride, your "oh that
won't work" Just like me telling you you can successfully drop shot huge baits, that
this technique catches huge bass, when Carolina or texas rigging those
same baits won't "at that time". There is a huge amount of things you could teach me about finding bass,
and there is a huge amount I can teach you on catching them, when your
old ways just won't produce, but your pride will never let this happen

his email to get out again. And then makes a post like this one to make
us put him back in again. Rodney telling someone else about "stubborn

| My neighbor has a Motoguide and I have a Minnkota. Neither has given us any
trouble. The Minnkota feels more solid and rugged to me, but that is just
my opinion. I know my neighbor also thinks the Minnkota is better made, but
both have worked well. Jeff |

| I've used motorguides for several years now and have no complaint really
except I hate the way the gator mount mounts on the boat with those
expandable screws thangies. No matter how tight the screws are screwed down
the motor always looks like it's gonna tear out of that boat one day when
I'm on the water using it. Anyone else have this opinion?

| Its a tough call. I'm pretty hard on my equipment, but so far my two Minn
Kotas seems to be holding up better than the one Motorguide I had or the old
Evinrude I still have. Bob La Londe

| Oh, you mean reaching up under there? There's tools for that very purpose
Josh... Usually there's a plate or something to pull off that lets ya get under

| I used to be a motor guide user, but to tell you the truth, the MK on my
current boat is a more reliable, more battery firendly motor any any MG
I've ever owned. |

| To be honest... I've used both and the motors were fine on both of them.
But... The mounting system on my Motorguide that came with my boat absolutely
sucks. There's more thrashing and twisting going on with that thing that
somedays I think it's going to break itself loose. To help lessen the twist,
I'll pull it up to where the motor is just under the water enough to keep
from cavitating. The mounting systems on all of the Minn Kota are either solid across the top
and to me, very well built. The newer ones even have something to assist in
lifting the motor up that I think would really help out my back! The pedals
on the Minn Kotas also seem to be more ergonomic and are easier to use. Other than my mounting issues with my Motorguide, the thing has lasted
through two seasons of pure hell. It's been bounced off of rocks, sticks,
logs, stumps and anything else that has gotten in my way. Only problem I've
had with the motor was the time it started making a loud sound when run on
either of the two most upper speeds. I fixed this problem myself by
loosening the long screws on the motor housing and realigning them. I guess
I may have knocked something out of whack one day on one of those rocks. I'm still planning on upgrading the motor to a 24v, and I've decided on the
Minn Kota Maxxum 70lb/24v. Only because of the mounting system and to get
more power. The 12v motor will get me through about 12 hours of fishing, so
the 24v should increase my time as well. |

|
| Charles, I can relate to the bouncing of the MG motor on their mount. MK
makes a stabilizer kit that I think I'll order for my MG. Basically it
straps the motor down to the mount, keeps it stable. Warren |

| I'll have to look into that... or if you do first, let me know how it works.
Hopefully it won't be long before I get the MK, but then again... I thought
I would have it before Okeechobee too! At least my wife is back to work. She's been off for a year and that took
its' toll on my fishing money. LOL |

|
| I hear that! Will do... Say, does your MG Mount keep your shaft in the center, or off to one side?
I have the newer one that keeps it off to the side. Design flaw if you ask
me... Warren |
