I towed 4400# boat with a 99 Expedition, same engine. Will tow fine, but they do like gas. Most I ever got was 16.5 mpg without towing. Outside Calif, probably 10% more milage. Calif

I had a '98, 01, 03, and now an '04, what's that tell you. Great boat pulling truck. Jerry

I have a 99" 150, with the V-6, I only tow an 18" Tracker weighted about 2400lbs. It does just fine, I live in the mountains of North Carolina and Fish South Carolina most of the time, so up and down the mountain usually whenever I go out, it is a great truck. Scott

A new one I see

Mine is a 1977 with 78,000 actual miles, in Mint condition

I will be towing a 1997 20 javelin w/ a 200 johnson.

It will pull that boat fine, but you will know it's back there >

That you used to work for Ford Motor Company and get them on a great plan? ;-) Steve
Dec 12
Yeah, you could say that. I offered to get an "X" plan for ppl in here. The "X" plan is only 4% different than the employees "A" plan, so it's still quite a savings. Jerry

OR...he's had as much trouble with his F150's as my sister has had with hers. :-(

Hey Scott, can you feel that 18" Tracker on the back of that Ford? go-bassn

I have a 97' 150 4x4 with x-tra cab and the 4.6 and I tow a 17' Ranger with 115ob and I think the total package weighs somewhere around 3000+. I have near 140,000 miles and I have no problems. Not only does the truck run as good now as when it was new, it also pulls the boat up big hills with no problem. I only hope you're talking about a 4x4 though. I'd hate to get stuck on a launch ramp with some mud in a 2 by.

Just bareley know that it is back there. When I first bought the boat I had a terrible problem with leaving the plug in it, while I was at the house. And I have taken many a tons of rain water towards the lake with me. But have learned after buying more gas then needed and more wear and tear then I needed, to pull lite. I think he was making a joke out of the 18 inches that you put in your first message. But... even pulling my 17' Nitro with my 2001 F-150 v6, I can hardly tell it's there. Especially compared to that little Ranger I used to use. Charles

Well let's see...

I was runnin' low on gas, so I took it down to the station that was about 3 or 4 miles from the <er> resort. I gassed her up, paid the guy and tried to get back to Hurricane, but it wouldn't start. Dead starter...

I called Vern's drunk ass and he and I attempted to push it away from the pumps. In doing so, the drivers door caught on a post almost ripping it off the hinges. I drove Vern back to his mansion on the hill and headed back to Hurricane. I told Sean and Jerry my problem since I was driving Verns truck, and I had to pick up Vern at 5:00 the next morning. They decided that they would follow me back over to Verns and we'd just drop off the truck and he could get there if he was sober enough the next morning.

If I remember correctly... we're you there when we took his truck back? If not... you'll love the rest of the story.

Anyway, the next night, Jerry drove me into town to pick up a new starter. The door wasn't as bad as I thought, but did have it repaired after returning home.

I traded that thing in about three months ago for the F-150 so I could get myself and two of my kids in it every morning on their way to school. That was a good ole truck, and was still running strong when I traded it. Only problem was, it didn't like pulling the boat in its' old age. Good thing I only live about 5 miles from the ramp!

At one time I owned 6 Ford F-150's,they pulled landscape trailers and equipment fine for the first 75-80,000 miles, then went belly up and I had a mechanic on staff for maintenance.I replaced them with GMC trucks with the Vortec and man what a difference. All my Fords were '96 models but I hear the newer ones are a lot better.I sure like the way they look. BassMr

I dunno Warren, I own three Chevy trucks for my business. They are good trucks, but the main reason I went with Chevy trucks had nothing to do with quality or features. I have owned an F-250 and an F-150 in the past. They were great trucks too. I currently still have a 1965 F-250 as a yard truck. It sits for long periods, and always starts up when we need to move equipmebt around in the yard.

The main reason I went with Chevy was because of front end help on sales. I walked in and said, "I need a truck for my business." The first one I had a good deal on and drove it off the lot before they even had the paperwork ready. The next two trucks were the same way. Although my family owns a lot of GM stock, and my father in law is a retired GM principal exec, I would buy a Ford ina minute if I had gotten the same quality no nonsense service and a good price on the truck. It was the sales people and the commercial sales manager that made the difference for me.
