No Luck with the Ice

Ice Storm ....that is. Last Thursday(6th) we lost power and had over 8 inchs of ice on trees and power lines. 4 days later I wrecked my car in an accident on the highway( Ice and snow) We got the power back yesterday and cable today. Everyone is fine so I'm grateful in that respect, but a winter like this makes me think about moving somewhere warm. Thank God for wood stoves, best thing I ever did was not get that taken out when I moved here.,, that and making sure I had maximum coverage for the house and cars. Hoping spring comes soon, but they say this is just the start of it all.

Hi Randy,

I hope that you weren't injured in the accident. I don't know about you, but I've just about had it with winter already. The high today managed to make it all the way up to -5.

Okeechobee never sounded so good!

Move on down. Real estate is low right now due to the wimps that left after the last hurricane season. There are a lot of lots with the septic and well that the people cleared after the storms, listed with an agent, and fled north. Bill P. ==

Hey Doc, what about that "Red Tide" thing ya all got down there on the gulf side? Sounds pretty nasty if you catch it. A Doctor colleague of mine can't seem to shake it, even after six weeks now? Heard of it yet? -- Steve Steve

The wife and I go to Siesta Key public beach in Sarasota and the red tide is mostly south of us. It is a mocro-organism that only gets pushed in with an onshore breeze (a little help here, Warren). Not to say it doesn't come up here but unless you are allergic to it the only problems are a slight burning of the eyes and maybe a runny nose. Leave the beach and they go away in about 10 minutes. I'm in Arcadia about 45 miles from the beach and 65 miles from Okeechobee. Bill P. ===

Poor guy, I know, has had this for six weeks now and he has been here at home here in the Toronto Ont. area for a month after being down to his condo in Fort Myers. Apparently it is more common toward Texas.

65 miles from the big "O", WOW! You are a lucky guy Doc! -- Steve

Actually Ft. Myers is only a short hop south of Sarasota but the gulf currents are a little different down there. R.O.F.B.ers have an open invitation here. We keep a guest room with a queen bed (got rid of the sleeper couch in there). While "O" is the most recognized I'm within easy driving to the Harris Chain, ToHo, Walks-In-Water, Lake Placid and so on. Bill P. ====

How would you duck hunt if you don't live in areas with nasty winter weather? :-) I am glad no one was hurt.

I have noticed the red tide on Siesta Key many times. Seems to happen when we are down there about every other year. It has been there in Spring and Summer. It does make the eyes burn.
