Split Rings for Crankbaits

Just a quick question for you all, if I'm going to replace factory and old hooks on my crankbaits what size split rings do you all suggest I buy? Also, I have read somewhere that if you use two split rings on each hook it lessens the chances of the fish throwing the bait? Is this true? Thanks in advance.

....I think two split-rings would actually interfere with hooking ability due to the way the hook would be traveling on the retrieve.....if replacing with the same sized hooks, use the same size that came on it...if upsizing the hooks which is something I like to do....go up a size on the rings....said Huck Huck

I just did that to about 100 crankbaits. Left them in my boat last winter and they rusted bad. Most I went back with the same size. Some I just experimented around a little. Make sure you buy good hooks. The baits that didn't rust had the good hooks an them. Kevin Kevin

Here is what I read on the double split rings:

Have you ever noticed that a lot of the bass you hook using a crankbait have the tendency to shake the hooks loose when they fight? Here is a pretty easy solution to help you keep those fish hooked and landed. Remove the hooks from your crankbait, and add another split ring to the already existing split ring. Then reattach the hooks! This gives the hook less leverage, and I guarantee it will help with your hook-up ratio

Is this a load of crap? Anyway, when I replace these hooks, are you all sold on this using red trebles? And do you only use them on the front hooks???

Thanks for your help everyone.

I have replaced the front hooks with red. Who knows...I think that the red thing is overdone but when you have to buy hooks...try red and let us know richardorsborn

Another thing I was thinking about in re: using two split rings is that the hooks may tend to hang up on ya when casting. That is to say occasioallly the front hook n rear hook will tangle on a cast with only one split ring. I see this as a way to increase that kind of annoyance. Joshuall
