My boat

The news keeps getting better and better. The Marina pulled my motor off yesterday to put the new VMax on and noticed that my steering linkage was no longer certified by the Coast Guard. So I had to replace that as well, another $650 tacked on. Oh well , I am going to have to work really hard this spring, summer, and fall to make that money back :-), but what better way to work it off than fishing!

Take care all!

That sounds odd. What difference does it make if the steering is "certified" by the Coast Guard? I've never had a Coastie check my "steering certification" on a check. Was the steering working all right when you parked the boat? If so, and you were pleased with how the boat handled last summer, I'd save the $650.

Maybe Pat Goff can jump in here and shed some more light on the subject.

Sounds like the old catalytic convertor argument. How often you might be checked makes little difference to the dealership that might be responsible for making sure they are not involved in "unapproved" practices. They have a lot more to lose then you do...as far as legal matters go. Andrew

First question to the dealer should be, "Show me the regulation you are refering to." Then read it, research it and deciede for your self. Personal experience over the years has made me very skeptical of info given to me by a dealer of any kind until I have checked it for myself!!! danl4x@charter.net Remove the x for e-mail reply www.outdoorfrontiers.com www.SecretWeaponLures.com Dan

That's a good point Dan...I definitely agree. Andrew

That steering sounds bizarre. That must be one expensive steering cable. Bob

That sounds uh....fishy. I'm not aware of any sort of coast guard regs on steering. All they are concerned with is floatation and hp requirements.

and...$650 bones will almost buy a hydraulic system.

Nothing on this planet makes me more insane than a boat dealer taking advantage of someones ignorance.
