Congratulations. Its a tough habit to lick. I threw my last pack of cigarettes out the window late one night or was it early one morning coming home from a party in April of 1988. Do you still have the just smoked a cigarrette dreams? Bob

34 days and counting here. I still want 'em, but so far I've been stronger. Hardest time was when I had my dog of 14 yrs put to sleep last weekend. I hope to make it as long as you Rich.

HELP! I've tried everything....but my problem is, I enjoy the damn things! Guess it's a little like sex...it may kill me some day...but damned if I'm gonna quit it <grin>!

Seriously....I have been giving this a lot of thought lately, my dentist is getting very "vocal" about it....not to mention my doctor friend that I play golf with....the dentist probably is sincere....my friend the doctor, probably just wants me to live long enough to get his money back from our golf bets <grin>!

Congrats Rich. I've got an employee at work that loves bass fishing & smoking. He told me that he would love to go on one of my trips to El Salto with me but can't afford it. I got out my calculator and showed him that the cost of going to El Salto every other year is almost exactly the same cost as 1 pack of cigarettes a day! I guess we all have our priorities. RATMAN

Good Job!

I celebrated 20 yrs since my last puff at the stroke midnight on New Years Eve of this year. Well, I would have had I been able to stay awake until midnight.

Toughest thing I ever did was quit smoking.

Funny twist though, for over two years I prayed and wished for the day that I would not think about smoking one time throughout the day. When the day finally came I didn't know it.

John,

I quit when I had the heart attack. Never had the slightest urge to light up another one. That after smoking unfiltered Pall Malls for 35 years.

But 2 years after the heart attack, I went was diagnosed with an aortic aneurism. The vascular surgeon told me that he had never had to put a prosthetic aorta into a patient under the age of 70 who was not a lifelong heavy smoker. If I hadn't given it up prior to that, I would have given it up at that point.

Rich, I hear ya....now I just have to find my way to beat it! I guess we don't think it can happen to "us"...til it does. All the guys that have posted here that have kicked the habit is heartening...I need to do more than just think about it! I want to be around when my grandson wins the Basmasters Classic <grin>!

Thanks for the reply!

I quit cold turkey, no problemo in April after 20 yrs (and I liked them right at the end) Although I wasn't certain that I wanted to live forever, I did want the freedom to choose. Now I do want to live forever...(hope I reformed in time) BTW, if you don't stop the smoking, you will probably be quitting sex earlier than you would like!:) Eric

23 years ago, I quit smoking around my wife when she was pregnant. No smoking in the house at all. Easy enough in the nice weather, just step out on the porch. Winter came, and I told myself if I wanted it that bad, I would be willing to sit in the work truck. I found myself less and less willing to get out of my comfortable house just to sit in a cold truck for a lonely smoke. For weeks I smoked at work but not at home. One Sunday evening I realized I hadn't smoked since I got home Friday night. That's when I threw them out. Do it for the kiddos. They might like having you around. Henry

Congratulations. For me the date was Feb 10, 1980, but I started quitting 13 years earlier, and during that time I was off for a full year once or twice and resumed.

I read once that nicotine can be more addictive than heroin (or was it cocaine?).

I always used to fantasize that life would have been much easier if cigarettes were healthy and they put the cancer in spinach.

I quit 31 years ago in Feb for the same reasons. I figured that if I wanted to see my Grandchildren I better stop and I did .From 2 packs a day to zilch overnight.I can't stand the smell of someone's smokes but to this day after a really good meal [ thanks giving] I still feel the urge. Not as bad but still have the urge.I made a good choice Ken Blevins Ken
