Twice a year I attend nat'l NSSA CW skirmishes near Winchester va. I
always charter my friend Tom Mc Fillin who guides SM fishing on the
gorgeous Shenandoah river. He poles his Clackacraft (a seemingly
indestructable drift boat) over rocks & small falls & we spend the
entire day (thanks to his wife's great lunch) in search of the wily
smallmouth. We had moderate success between watching bald eagles soaring
overhead & the lovely scenery when my small mid depth crankbait got
eaten & I was in for a tough fight. The fish wouldn't jump, but
bulldogged down stream with the river's help. 5 or 10 minutes later I
netted a 10 lb channel cat (Tom uses 6 lb test Stren) I really look
forward to fishing the Shenandoah in may once again. --
