Garmin update
You may remember the problem I had with my GPS162 awhile back with the
screen fading and then turning itself off. Well, Garmin sent it back to me
about a week after they got it saying that nothing was found wrong with the
unit. While they had it, they were nice enough to replaced the casing on the
unit so when it came back, it looked as if it was brand new again!Sunday was the second time I've been out fishing this year, and really the
first time that I had a chance to play around with my GPS again. A couple of
times, the unit just powered itself off, just as before. Kinda irratated me
so I started playing around with it to see if I could make it do it again.
(I had plenty of time to kill while I was waiting for Joe anyway...) I knew it wasn't a battery problem like someone suggested before because I
had just installed a new cranking battery in the boat. So, I discovered that
playing around with the power cord, I could make it turn off! Damn, bad
power cord. I guessed that I should have sent it in to Garmn along with the
unit but didn't. So, when I got home I looked up a replacement cord from
Garmin and shocked to see that they are $32.00! Called Garmin this morning and spoke to a very nice guy that seemed
concerned that I was still having problems. Even though this unit is out of
warrenty now (by only 7 days), he's going to send a new power cord to me at
no cost! He didn't even require me to pay the shipping fees, and if there's
any still a problem after receivign the cord... Garmin will check the system
again at no charge. This is what I call Customer Support! WTG Garmin!

| I'm just glad someone is catching something! I didn't get out this weekend
as planned and it didn't even snow!
I do have a new collection of SecretWeapons I am itching to use though. My
wife thinks I am crazy sitting around playing with different blade
configurations. |

| I hear ya about not getting out. I got out and caught some steelhead on
Sunday, but all I can think about the Marina finishing up my boat, and
getting out and sticking some bass. I literally cannot think of
anything else, and the bass videos, books, and magazines are just not
cutting it the 3rd time around :-) Chris |

| Wish I could say the same about Autozone and my Optimax marine
battery. It died this year. I returned it March 3 and was told the 18 month
free replacement expired. It was out by 3 days. $150.00 battery and 3 days cost me $88.00 to replace. I e-mailed Optimax and I will update when I find out if they will
correct this. BTW had I bought the battery in June it would have been on the last
day of the warranty. On Tue, 8 Mar 2005 10:07:26 -0600, "Charles B. Summers" |

| That's top notch. They also have a flat rate to repair or replace any out
of warranty Garmin Unit. |

| Perhaps I need to send them my Etrex hand held unit. It keeps powering off
even with new batteries or an external power source. I was about to junk it
even though it is about a year old and get a Magellan. |

| That's one of the best reasons I could give for selling "all" of my Lowrance
stuff. Way to go Charles. |

| Give them a call and see what they say, it can't hurt. If you decide to junk it... junk it over here. I would at least try to clean
the contacts where the battery is installed beforehand. A pencil eraser
works fine for doing that. |
