Dealer Review -  Rick Carter Marine and Pat Goff

I had some trepidation about dealing with a dealer two states away and not governed by the same statutes and restrictions as I am used to, but over all this has a positive experience.

As some of you know I just purchased a "new" 2004 BassCat Cougar FTD from Pat Goff at Rick Carter Marine. We beat each other up over the price, but we settled on what I feel is a very good price for the boat. Good enough I promised Pat I would not tell you guys what it was.

On top of that Pat brought the boat to Arizona for me. That was outstanding. The deal almost didn't happen, because their finance guy couldn't get me the financing deal I wanted. He sure tried though. He did shoot a half dozen offers at me. He definitely wasn't playing around. Finally I went over to a local bank and they wrote me a decent deal (better actually than what I was shooting for). In the mean time Pat was already on the road. He wasn't waiting around. He figured to make the deal come hell or high water. Can't fault his dedication in that respect.

He came armed with temporary plates and registration for both the boat and the trailer. Out of sight. I had the boat on the water the same day to try it out. The only snag was Pat forgot the manuals for everything in a packet on his desk before leaving Texas. He is Fed-Exing those to me today.

I have had the boat out on the water three time and fished out of it twice. After having a chance to let the excitement wear down a little bit I noticed a few things with the boat. All cosmetic, and all related to sitting on the lot for a year. (This is a 2004 after all) I e-mailed Pat a list of my concerns and asked if he could help me out with any of them. Every single item I asked about he is sending me new replacements for. Absolutely fantastic customer service. He even told me to keep the old parts as spares.

I can't say enough good things about the service Pat has given me so far. I have purchased new vehicles before. A couple new Harley Davidsons, several new Chevy and GMC trucks, and a couple new cars. I have never had this great of customer service from any of them. Most were ok, especially when buying commercial work trucks. They know they will sell you more trucks in the future if they take decent care of you, but this is phenomenal service.

Pat. Thank you for all your help.

Wow, that is an amazing story. It is great to hear about that kind of service, and I can't believe more people do not follow that kind of service. What are the chances you are going to buy another boat from him in the future?/ I would think pretty good.

thanks for sharing,

Chris

Well, I have to be honest. I hope to not be buying another new boat anytime soon (he does have a used tin boat listed on their website that intrigues me LOL), but in 15 years or so, when this one is paid for and I am considering a new one I will definitely see if Pat is still in the business. That is one of those things that really amazes me. This isn't like service trucks where I buy a new one almost every year. Pat probably won't see a second new boat sale from many customers for the rest of their life, and yet he still went out of his way to take excellent care of me. A lot of the little things I asked about could have been blown off. I paid him for the boat on the spot. Nothing I could have done about it if he chose not to take care of my minor concerns. Instead he jumped to take care of them, and even rushed things. I seem to be running out of positive expletives, but I certainly haven't run out of the desire to use them.

Having met Pat, what you've written doesn't surprise me one bit. Dealing with Pat is how it's supposed to be done.

Congratulations on your new ride,

Steve
