The Mystery Of Pine Tree Lake- Out Today
Woke at 5:30 to rain and some wind. The RLM was sitting securely outside
with the other boats I have seemed to have collected over the years. Do I really want to load the boat up? Considering that yesterdays 9 a.m
deadline came and went, I knew today I would have to be back on time. Nah,
not gonna do it. Too much trouble, grab a cup of coffee and head over to the
lake for some bank fishing. I cast my speedworm out and lo and behold it's flattened with two cranks of
the reel. I lose the fish in the sticks there. Hmm, now I want to launch. 6:10 a.m. I decide to head to the most puzzling of the lakes here. Pinetree
Lake. A very small lake that most people in the community go swimming at,
playground lots of kids etc etc. Now I know there are some decent size fish as I have caught them over 5
lbs, but they were few and far between. Most locals here never fish it much
due to as they put it. Lack of Quality fish and lack of Quantity fish. Does this deter me? Heck no. Two hours to fish and this lake is stepping
stones from the house. I load the boat, grab the battery and head on over. I
motor out and start with buzzing the speedworm. My first cast results in a
huge wake following but not taking. I cast back to the spot, start cranking
and this time the fish hits home. Solid hookset ensures this fish is mine. I
take a picture and let her go. I continued to fish nailing quite a few
fish..the problem was they were all between 7-10 inchs. No more big fish. As I cruised around I saw a bunch of fish busting out in the middle of the
lake. I troll on over and sure enough it looks like a big school of crappie
chasing down bugs and stuff. I rig a tiny brush hog figuring I could have
some fun for the remainder of my time. I get a whole bunch of tiny hits but
no takers. Then my line gets tapped and it starts running. I think ok big
crappie, half set the hook and the line screams... a nice LM ( about 3-4
lbs) comes up shaking it;s head and spits the hook. That will teach me to
half set the hook. I fished it a bit more with no results. I head in and
arrive home to a happy wife at 8:37 a.m Picture at a.b.p.f |
