Alright, you convinced me to try it.

I spooled up a couple baitcasters with 30lb Stren Super Braid and put them on a pair of Lamiglass 7' 3 power rods. I tied a big popper on one, and fished crank baits on the other. I caught fish on both. In fact I nailed my first three bites in the morning on the topwater within the first 20 minutes. I missed one, but he never hooked up. I was impressed. None were particularly large with with the largest running just over 14", but not bad. I still think the rods were a bit stiff for cranking and topwaters, especially with braided line, but overall not bad. I may try to hunt up a 2 power to try and see how it does.

I have tried braid for topwaters in the past, but I just wasn't impressed. coule be a combination of wrong rod and less experience.

One thing I noticed. Most of the day I fished with a very very light spool tension and just barely accelerated the rod to cast and I got great distance. When the wind picked up I had to tighten down just a tiny bit. Wow!
