Interesting read. I think they picked it to see who can figure something out in tough conditions. Just after a storm front on a tough lake. Sure luck may be deciding factor as most of the guys interviewed seemed to indicate, but I think most of those who finish well will be those who can figure it out.

Nope, there's too many good bodies of water around here to fish. Wisconsin has over 15,000 named bodies of water. There's not a chance that I'll get to all of them. Steve

I think that luck has very little to do with it and I agree with you Bob, those who finish well will have figured it out. Sure, the lake is small in comparison to others, but "Welcome to the Real World." They'll actually have to study the lake and fish the not so obvious places, just like any other Wisconsin angler has to do.

I had an interesting chat with Ray Scott and he would like to see a bass tournament on a small body of water, with one bass in the lake. The one who can figure it out and catch that one fish would be the winner.

On this lake, it should be interesting to see who can figure it out and who is actually the better angler.

What does changing color have to do with it? :-)

You can only DIE trying if you are too hidebound to change and adapt to existing conditions.

I still say that those that are smart and able to figure out what the fish are doing will do well. Those that come onto the lake with pre-conceived notions of what the fish "should do", or "are supposed to do" will get burned big time. There will be more "fishing" and less catching on this tournament, but isn't this supposed to be about the angler's skill at figuring out the water and the fish?

Of course, there will be a certain element of luck, but nothing to the degree that the complaints seem to dictate, and certainly no more than any other tournament.

Good and consistent anglers create their own "luck."

Agreed!

Apparently what these guys are saying is that there simply aren't many quality bass in the lake. I think they've been spoiled to a point because of ESPN's insistance on putting them on the best *big* bodies of water at the best times to be there.

I remember the days of *tough* BASS tournaments, where guys like George Cochran & Larry Nixon might scrounge out a 10 pound limit each day & win.

I know I certainly prefer working hard for my fish. Anyone can catch em when they're jumping in the boat.

To me a perfect tournament day is getting 5 keeper bites & getting them all in the boat.

I will say though that if KVD's not expecting a limit that the WI event will be tough as nails.

From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website...

"A new law, 2003 Wisconsin Act 249, established the pilot program and authorized culling for four bass tournaments each year between June 2005 and Dec. 31, 2006. The Department of Natural Resources is required to select the participating tournaments, and to allow those tournaments' competitors to cull bass (replace smaller fish with bigger fish in their live wells and to continue to fish once they reach their daily limit).

DNR is required to evaluate the effects of the culling and report back to the Legislature before the pilot program ends Dec. 31, 2006.

"We're looking for a range of tournament sizes and geographic locations to help us evaluate the economic and social impacts of the tournaments, as well as the biological impacts of whether culling affects the fish that are later released," says Mike Staggs, DNR fisheries director."

Wissota is a joke for a Elite 50 tournament. If they were going to use a Wisconsin body of water they should have either used the Winnebago System or Madison Chain. The latest tournament in Madison had the top 30 within 2lbs of the winner, with the winning weight being around 21lbs (6 fish). Also, it fishes bigger than Wissota. I am not sure why they chose Wissota over these bodies of water, which produce more fish, and have more area to fish.
