Scents for Bass???
What do you all think of using scents to attract/catch bass? I have a buddy
who likes to use a scent stick (like a chapstick) on crank baits and other
unscented lures. Do you think it makes a difference? If yes what are your
favorite "flavors" ?TR |

| Personally I think they make a difference. I will say this first, I am
on the Pro Cure pro-staff (http://www.pro-cure.com) , but it was only
because I used their products before I pursued them as a sponsor. With
that said, they have both a paste and an oil type product. The paste is
perfect for crankbaits. You can run the back hook through the paste.
YOu get about 10 casts before you have to reapply usually. My favorite scents for this body of water are Gizzard Shad, Leech, and
of course crayfish. I have both crayfish and gizzard shad paste, and
all 3 scents in oils. Match the hatch I guess. I figure as long as scents don't deture bites,
I will continue to use them. Hope this helps. Chris |

| Some scents I think are just cover scents. They cover other unpleassant
scents. WD40 works for instance. You can't convince me tha6t smeels or
tastes like anything a fish wants to eat. Can't argue that it seems to
work. Ont he other hand some do a little more. Mega Strike is hot stuff.
I proved to my partner a coupel tournaments ago that it works. We were
throwing two different baits. Totally different. I was throwing a wacky
Senko in baby bass colors, and he was throwing a funky purple and brown
looking Beaver Tail. We were both getting bit , but it seemed like I had
all the time in the world to set the hook. He kept missing fish. In
defference to Hammer (my partner) I have to admit that I was surprised. He
is the better more experienced angler. I handed him some mega strike and
told him that was making the difference. Next thing you know he was boating
fish at the same rate I was. I do not know if it makes any huge difference in the number of strikes, but
I am convinced it makes ahuge difference in how long the hold the bait.

| I have to agree Mega Strike is the best I have ever used, I have found
the fish hold onto the lure much longer, and will strike it over and
over if they miss the hook, while mouthing the lure. Mega strike has
worked for me on all species of fish. I even had a four # Channel cat
pick up a dead sticked worm, that had been just laying out there for a
couple of min. |

| I think if the fish are biting it doesn't make a difference. If the bite is
slow or water is really stained it just might. I recently started using the
dip it, garlic scent and I like it, but more for a color change on a tail of
a plastic bait then for the scent. I have not fished it enough to notice
weather the scent makes a difference |

| Since salt impregnated baits seem to do better, scents should be applicable
also. |

| I'm with the others here, scientific data aside, I use them because to me,
they seem to help sometimes. And I've never seen them hurt, so, I use them.
Are they really attractants or are they cover scents? I personally don't
know, but they don't seem to spook anything... My favorites are fairly basic. I like the more or less original Anise scent,
and some garlic when nothing else is drawing a bite from sluggish fish. And
in certain waters that are crawfish rich, I will use craw flavored as well.
While not attached to any brand in particular at the moment, I currently
favor the Bang brand of spray scents. It's easy to find locally, and has
served me well for a couple of years now. Caught my personal best (and first
#10+) largemouth in 2003 on a lure that had just been coated with Bang Anise
for whatever that's worth. |

| I've had a dead bite turn on because I used fish formula (shad),
Megastrike or Kik'n Bass scents. I'll fish without them but if the bite
is tough, it could make the difference. Dave V |
