NWC News!
I was out and about yesterday, rounding up prizes for this year's Northwoods
Classic. While in Eagle River, I stopped and talked to Cliff, my
taxidermist about the upcoming event. He offered to make a replica mount of the bass for the winner of the Big
Bass Award! So, during weigh-in, remind me to take length and girth measurements of
everyone's big bass, ok? And someone will get cash, a trophy and a replica mount of the winning fish,
is that cool or what? |

| Yep, pretty cool. I'm going to go predict right now that the big fish that wins the
competition will be a 4.3-pound smallmouth. That seems to be the magic
number for me so far this year... I've caught three or four smallies that
size. The mount will make a nice addition to my home office. Thanks, Steve. Be sure to give him photos of the fish from several angles, with and without
flash, too, so his replica will be true in every respect. Joe

| What was the size of that smallmouth you caught with me? I was thinking
about 6lbs... wasn't it? |

| Ummm.... why, yes.... yes, that seems about right. I remember there was a
"6" in that weight somewhere... in my memory, I had the "6" in the ounces
side of the weight and not the pounds side, but I like your recollection
better. ;-) Joe

| Hey all, Gil and I were talking yesterday about the upcoming NWC and we both realize
that while it's a lot of fun, for some people it might be a stretch
financially to make it up here to fish the tournament. With this in mind, Gil made a very generous offer. He has a 20 something
foot travel trailer that is pretty darned nice. He says that anyone that
would like to save some money is free to use the trailer for the NWC. It's
set up in his backyard right now so it has electricity too. Let me know if anyone would like to use it. |

| That's right nice of Gil. Maybe his offer will take the last obstacle away
from someone who's got the weekend free, but just couldn't justify the
expense. My brother in SC has a motor coach he uses for all his NASCAR travels, and
we spent a lot of time in it last weekend on Lake Hartwell. Frankly, I'd
prefer it to a hotel room. Man, are those things comfortable and convenient!
When I retire (at the rate I'm going, it may be around age 90), I'll have to
get me one of those, too. Speaking of which.... Bob came across an old fellow touring the county in a
motor coach the other day.... the guy had had several major heart attacks
and had been resuscitated two or three times. He had not only a pacemaker,
but also a defibrillator implanted in his body. And this guy tools down the
highway at 80 mph! I guess his idea of the way to go involves keeling over
while driving down the interstate, followed shortly thereafter by automatic
cremation. I just hope I'm not in his vicinity when he buys the farm. Joe
