A Fisherman's Time Capsule
My dad gave me my grandfather's old fishing stuff a while back, and I
took some pics for any who might be interested. He last fished in the
late 1960's, and looking at his everyday gear was educating for me. If
any of you are interested in seeing it, I post on the TFF as Ornery,
and you can see it here:

| Hmmmm.... a lot of that looks like what I'm still using today, Henry. Maybe
that's why folks ask me if I robbed a museum every time I bring my gear on
their boat. Old gear still catches bass, though. I'm sort of careful where I
throw some of Granddad's old plugs from the '40's and '50's, and I double
check my line and knots to be sure I'll get them back. Somehow, it helps
keep the family ties across generations alive to enjoy and use the same gear
my uncles, dad, and grandpas used and carefully maintained. I like that way you can enlarge the photos to screen size, and then on up to
actual size, by clicking on them. Those would make a great shadow box or
glass-top coffee table collection, with the rods mounted on the wall above
them. A free wall mount of a big smallmouth caught at the NWC would finish the
collection nicely, don't you think? I guess you'll just have to join us up
at Rhinelander in a week or two in order to win it! Joe ------ <=~ 0")))><

| LOL! If you are still throwing Luny Frogs, you've got a lot more money
than I have. I've seen them on eBay regularly getting above $50 each. I
wish I could make it to Rhinelander, but I'm afraid I'd have to sell
Granddad's tackle and quit my job to do it. :( One day y'all will
decide to make it Lake Fork, and I'll be there if I have to walk! |

| Joe, since you are such a connoisseur of older lures, can you tell me
anything about that spinner? Here's a pic:

If you can't make it out, it is marked: 3 4 BROS 4 (in a dog-bone shaped logo)
COLORADO
TRADEMARK
MADE IN USA It has two single hooks (facing inward) on a ring with a barrel swivel.
On the other end of the swivel is another ring with the blade and
another swivel. Besides wanting to identify it, I'm curious about the
hook configuration. Was this supposed to be used with live bait? Seems
to me the hooks should face away from each other.
Anybody? |
