| Jig worming is pretty much just using a Plastic worm , or craw, or
lizard (or whatever plastic you prefer) on a jighead. I personally use
6" Berkley Ribbon tail worms on a mushroom head, from 1/8 ounce to 1/2
ounce depending on how deep of water I am fishing. But a rig that made
some headlines this year is an offshoot off the standard jig worming
rig, using a long shank jig with a 4 or 6" worm with the hook point
tucked back into the worm texas style. Used with a 1/16, 1/8, or 1/4
ounce jig it gives you a great finesse presentation when fish might not
be so willing ot hit a standard texas rig. I know when I am using the mushroom head jig, the jig is exposed, but
the lighter wire, and very sharp hook rip through "healthy" weeds pretty
easily. In-Fisherman really uses this rig a lot along deep weedlines,
catching fish on the edges. I have also used it along rip rap
shorelines, bridge pilings, stand alone pilings, and deep rock piles. Beauty of using a ribbon tail worm is, you catch a lot of other species
as well. I haven't had the same multi-species success with a straight tail. Good luck and I hope this helps. Chris |
