Whatever way you're holding the hook, turn it over the other way. There's really no secret to it, if it didn't work right one way, try it the other. Steve

Tie a palomar knot, then take the tag end and run it through the eye of the hook one more time. It's really pretty simple. There's instructions and step by step illustrations in the article here...

you have to click each step of the instructions to see the illustration for that step.

This is a problem for many people, one of the main ones is the line size to the hook eye size, so I solved it, with a hook design that you can tie any knot to, it also maintains that up right position even in the fish's mouth. line size does not effect it at all, neither does the type knot used

See http://www.standouthooks.com/

or my site in my signature line These can also be ordered from Cabala's, Bass pro, or Jann's net craft

Well, I have tried Rodney's standup hook and it works pretty good for drop shotting a bait on an open hook, but my ABA team partner (Hammer) ties a z-bend worm hook on with a palomar that stands out almost perfectly straight. He fished it through thick grass and around stick ups with few snags.

Randy,

I have used them, and have thrown them all away. The way they are turned in at the point has caused me nothing but pain with losing fish. I know some guys use them with no problems, but I get better performance out of a fine wire owner in the same size. Or a Owner Mosquito hook for nose hooking.

All my light tackle nose hook drop shotting is done with basic Gamakatsu drop shot hooks. Tie a palomar knot, run the tag end back through the eye, and it stands out just fine. I can work it through moderate weed growth just fine, too. Can't do that with the standout hook, it is constantly picking up weed. And all the extra wire too often catches on fish lip and turns the hook around when you're setting the hook, resulting in missed fish aplenty. To tell you the truth, his prototypes looked like they would work a lot better than the production version does, but in the end, as far as I can tell, he invested a lot of effort in fixing a problem that doesn't really exist. I've put a nose hooked plastics on both hooks and run them side by side in a tank, and there's virtually no difference in the bait action, one way or another.

In timber, I will go to slightly heavier gear and T-rig with an offset hook. #1 Decoy Uppercut used to be my favorite for this, but I just can't get them anymore.
