Baitfish
I hear alot of anglers talking about locating baitfish to find bass. Can
someone explain to me how this is done with a fish locator, and what to
do once you find the baitfish. |

| Using my lowrance sonar I cruise from the boat ramp to some
predetermined area. I usually turn the sensitivity up and I look for
"clouds" or "patches." I don't stop and fish every time I see what
might be baitfish. I just make a note of what depth the "clouds" are.
Then when I get to a good spot I target areas that are at the baitfish
depth. If I see baitfish at 12 ft and later I find brush in 10 - 15
ft, then I use lures that will dive or sink to that depth. If you
can't locate baitfish or they are on the surface don't use your fish
locator. Look for birds and run a lure through some shallow water (you
will see the baitfish scatter). Also, if you can find an area where
you see baitfish either with or without sonar, then use a lure that
mimics the bait. Match the hatch. Baitfish will stick together and
try to avoid being ambushed. You should put your lure in places that
will get it attacked by a bass, and also make your lure act like it is
injured. I hope this helps. |
