rod repair

I glued a rod together as a repair at the end of last season. I was using it and the guides became misaligned.and I figured the glue didn't take. I put away and now it seems I can't align the guides. Is there a way of freeing it up. Thanks

Was this a two piece rod that kept coming apart and you tried to glue? If that's the case, there might be something that can be done to get them apart, but right off the top of my head, everything that I can think of might harm the rod and/or finish in the process.

About the only thing that I can think of would be to remove the guides from the top section and re-wrap them on the blank to align them with the guides on the butt section.

I would use a bone saw to cut the rod in two pieces and take it back to Wal-mart for a new one if it really is "jacked". "fishtale" <al.farnell@utoronto.ca> wrote in message Bass_Mr.

And try a piece of tape to tighten the fit next time?? greers

I would see if there were any "lads" out fishing, then throw rocks in the opposite direction of where they were looking then quickly switch rods, of course this is all based on the fact that I didn't eat a cold egg sandwich and that there were no CO's around, or wild beavers alwaysfishking

IF you epoxied the ferrules together..... then you can re-heat the epoxy and it will loosen. I take golf club heads off all of the time. You MIGHT ruin the rod, but..try using your wife's hair dryer or other "gentle" heat source. Heat the ferrule ( it does have a ferrule doesn't it?) and, with gloves on, grab the two pieces and twist. It should come apart. Clean it up with acetone and light sandpaper and try gluing it again.

IF it doesn't have ferrules,,,then I guess I'd re-do the eyes.

Don't mention it. I'm not at all fond of Usenet bullies who pile on just because they can. Maybe I lack their peculiar "sense of humor". Ken

I do have a further development. I applied heat to the rod joint but could not separate the two sections without popping something in my armpit. I carefully put the rod in a vise and applied a measured amount of torque. There was a clicking (not breaking) sound and the guides fell into line. It is still not possible to separate the two sections. Hopefully the glue will reseal. It is a long rod (10.5 feet)and there is a quite a whip to the cast and I hope the guides don't fall out of line on casting. fishtale
