Tennessee, Here I Come....
Well, it looks like this old Wisconsin boy is going to become a Tennessean!
Janet and I are heading down Sunday morning to Paris Tennessee and begin our
search for a house to rent. I've got a couple of them to look at, but I
don't want to commit to anything until I see it! So hopefully in the next
couple of days we'll find a house and do the move during the first week of
August. This will be the end of an era. G & S Guide Service is just going to be "G
Guide Service" as I'm going to retire from guiding. But now I'm going to have to learn Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkely. That's
going to be fun and I'm looking forward to doing some catfishing and
learning how to catch striped bass too! |

| Sorry to hear that. If you enjoy guiding half as much as my buddy Dave
Willhide it must have been a tough decision to give it up. Was it for
health reasons or just because you are going to have to learn some new
water? Bob La Londe

| Oh, I've always enjoyed guiding, and did four days in the past week with
clients. My health is pretty much unchanged, some days good, some days not
so good, so that isn't a factor either. The primary reason is that I just don't feel that I'll know the water well
enough to take people's money. I'm sure I'll be able to find fish, and I
might get back into it, but my plate will be pretty full for a while. |

| Yea! Now I'll have a place to escape too when... well, when I need an
escape. That's 12 hours less of a drive than where you are now! lol

| Yep, that was one of my thoughts when we started considering the
Tennessee/Kentucky area. We're in Paris Tennessee right now, hopefully we
can find a place to rent for now and get on down here permanently. Hopefully we'll have good news soon.

| Well, we made it back to Rhinelander safe and sound, 11.5 hours from
downtown Paris to the driveway. All in all, not a bad trip at all. We found a place to rent that's only about five minutes from Kentucky Lake's
Paris Landing! The only hang-up is the rental agent isn't sure that the
owner will allow my wife's two cats... And before anyone says, "I know what I'd do with those cats," you obviously
haven't met Janet! :-) The Paris area seems very nice. It has all the amenities we want, is the
size town we want to live near and the people are friendly. I met several
people that have offered to take me fishing when we get down there and show
me the lake! All in all, a good trip, but down on Sunday morning, back Tuesday night is a
bit of a grind! |

Sounds good Steve, as for the cats offer a refundable deposit over and
above the normal deposit to be returned after an inspection at the end
of your stay. I have found that to be acceptable to most landlords.
Let me know when you're ready for guest fishing trips. ;<} Dan |

| Are you sure you're busy on July 2nd? That's the day we'll be emptying the
moving truck! I found out from the property management company that the house in
Springville is ours! So we do have a place to move to, which is a big
relief.... Tennessee here we come. Now I have to start working on my "ya'alls" and
"usta coulds..." |

| That's good news Steve...hope the move goes smooth! You will only be
about an hours drive or so from my place, we'll have to see which end of
the two lakes we like the best. :) John B. ====

| Exactly John! I wanted to stop and see you when we were down there last
week, but we were there to house hunt! It was a quick trip, left Sunday
morning, looked at some places and were back in Rhinelander Tuesday night. We'll be getting together and as soon as we get settled in, then we'll catch
some fish and swap stories. |

| Guess so, He asked for a very reasonable, refundable pet deposit, which I
didn't have a problem with. We did look at one place for $450 a month, but
the guy wanted a $650 NON-refundable pet deposit! I told him that was just
a little over the top and he just should say, "no pets."

| Well Charles, everything has come together. I just got home with the moving
truck and you get out of the hard work of loading it. You'll be up on July
2nd, right? ;-p All the years of accumulated "stuff" is now sold, and we now are down to
what we hope will fit into our new home. After living in a five bedroom
house, with a full basement and a four stall garage, it's taken a LOT of
paring down. Our new place is a two bedroom, with no basement and no
garage, so it's going to be close! But, the new place is also only five minutes from the Paris Landing State
Park on Kentucky Lake. So I'm going to have to learn to fish mid-south
reservoirs. Bass, look out! Here I come! |

| Well, we're down here in Springville, safe, sound and happy. The truck is
empty and the house is filled. Even though we got rid of a lot of stuff,
our new home is FULL! I haven't had the time to get out fishing yet, but it
shouldn't be too long now. The people I've met have been very friendly and we've met our neighbors on
one side of the house, and they're fine people. Richard showed me a big tom
turkey he shot right behind the house! I'm liking it down here. Gasoline in Paris is $2.23 and there's even a
station that pumps the gas for you and gives a nickel discount if you pay
cash! I haven't seen prices that low in a long, Long time and a call up
north confirmed that gas is $2.74 a gallon. And now that the Charter guy is here, I'm back on the internet and we have
the TVs working too, so I can start watching what's going on in the world. So if anyone get's into the Springville area, give me a shout! |
