New Member Greeting
Hi Everyone,My name is Rory. I'm just starting out in the world of fishing. Right
now I'm torn between fly fishing and spin casting. They both seem to
have a bunch of pros and cons. Any opinions? |

| What makes you think you have to choose ? Do them them both, I do, my son does, we carry both on every trip, and
use the rig that works best that day under those conditions |

| tm Rodney, it's not a forever choice. I just think it is a good idea to
get some grounding in one or the other first. I find multitasking new
stuff gets me confused.
In the case of bass, do you have a preference? |

| Yes, I prefer spinning and bait casting for bass because they make the
Recoil Rig do it's stuff, and no rig works better for bass in the hands
of someone who has mastered it, no other fishing technique even gets
close. My 4 year old grandson catches more bass per day than most bass
fishermen do, not using it, and I'll put money on my 11 year old
granddaughter in the boat with "any" pro not using it. Of course finding bass is one of the hardest parts of bass fishing, no
one can catch them, when they are not where you are fishing |

general, it's less versatile and efficient than spinning and baitcasting. Of
course, like everything else, you ought to do what you enjoy and in

| I gave up on fly fishing when I could never find any hooks that small. What you need depends on your location. Brushy wooded streams can be
flyfished, but it is tough. Open water can be flyfished for even large
species of fish. I tend to prefer spin fishing, as I have neck and shoulder
problems. Like I say, it depends on where you're at. Is it lakes, streams?
Would float tubing be an option. It's lots of fun, inexpensive, and can get
you into some darn fine fishing holes that are otherwise inaccessible. Or
would a boat be better? As stated, look around and see what everyone else is using. After that,
there's a zillion kinds of rods and reels. They all catch fish. Steve |
